I found these so called facts when doing some searches on myspace and found them to be interesting. Fact or Fiction?

MySpace was founded in August 2003 by eUniverse (which later in mid-2004 changed its name to Intermix).

The very first MySpace users were E-Universe employees.  In October 2006, Brad Greenspan (the former Chairman, CEO and largest individual shareholder of Intermix Media, who claims to be the true “founder of MySpace”) launched a website and published “The MySpace Report” that called for the Securities and Exchange Commission, the United States Department of Justice.

It is headquartered in Beverly Hills, California, USA, where it shares an office building with its immediate owner, Fox Interactive Media; in turn, the owner of Fox Interactive and therefore MySpace, News Corporation, is headquartered in New York City.

MySpace profiles for musicians are different from normal profiles in that artists are allowed to upload up to six MP3 songs.

MySpace has a Groups feature, which allows a group of users to share a common page and message board.

MySpace’s music section has helped many amateur bands progress.

MySpace’s culture is now defined by provocative personal profiles and a highly social “meat market” atmosphere of interaction.

According to Alexia Internet, MySpace is currently the world’s sixth most popular English-language website and the sixth most popular website in any language, [2] and the third most popular website in the United States, though it has topped the chart on various weeks.

Hardline anti-pedophile organization Perverted Justice has praised Myspace for its efforts to combat pedophiles using their service.

YouTube first appeared on the web in early 2005, and it quickly gained popularity on MySpace due to MySpace users’ ability to embed YouTube videos in their MySpace profiles.  Realizing the competitive threat to the new MySpace Videos service, MySpace banned embedded YouTube videos from its user profiles.

Software friend adders like http://www.myfriendbuilder.com are not welcome but highly used by myspacers  as they give an advantage to those who use myspace for their bands, nightclubs and businesses.

So now you know little more fact or fiction about that phenomenon know as myspace.

MySpace is now, and has been for some time, the hottest trend when it comes to social networking endeavors online for businesses. This international website plays host to millions of individuals! With that many people accessing the website, it only makes sense to take advantage of accessing those people. Best of all, it can be done for FREE! Numerous businesses have taken advantage of the features and services that MySpace offers for their marketing efforts. You should too! Here, you will learn about marketing your business on MySpace.

Beginning Your Marketing on MySpace

MySpace is a simple solution for marketing – whether you are marketing yourself or your corporation. It is relatively easy to get started with this social networking website, and absolutely free! All you have to do is click the “sign up” button, and fill out the information that is required, and suddenly, you have your own space on MySpace! Once you get your account set up, it is time to make a few friends! While it is a good thing to contact everyone you know and add them as friends, it is even more important to ensure that you find some people online that you do not know. This is what networking is all about – finding as many people as possible when it comes to contacts.

It is essential to understand that there are a number of people on MySpace that may fit into the “market” that you need to achieve success in your business. In the same respect, there are many other individuals that do not fit into your market. The idea is to locate those that you feel are a good match for the products and services that your business offers. The best strategy to identify your market is to research the groups that have been created on MySpace. These groups are areas within the MySpace server that look to congregate with other members of this social networking website that have interests that are similar.

When researching groups, you may find that there are some limitations when it comes to your target audience. There is a work around solution for this; create your own group! Once you have your group up and running, there is forum feature on MySpace where you can announce the creation of your group to individuals around the world! This group and forum can be a potential gold mine when it comes to create a network of friends that may potentially become customers down the road! Remember; try to avoid the whole “advertising” persona while working to recruit others. Many have the mindset that groups and members that advertise will “spam” them – no one wants that.

Once you start interacting with individuals on MySpace for the intent of marketing your business, you will find that it is best to be more informative than one of those people who push for advertising and for a sale. By identifying needs of the individuals that you work with, you will be able to establish creative approaches on how you can assist them with their needs. It will take a lot of creativity, but the secret is to establish yourself as a “friend”, as well as an “expert” in your field. Offering free information, free advice, free products, and even free programs can be a creative approach to luring individuals in to what you are marketing.

Conclusion

If you want to market your business online, the best thing that you can do is to create a positive image of yourself on MySpace. Interact with others, socialize, offer valuable information – become a leading presence in the community. Remember, every interaction that you have on MySpace does not have to be professional. Find a group of a hobby that you have that is not work related, but could be used to encourage others to learn more about your products and services. Jump in there, and have a good time. You must be respected and trusted before you can transition from a friend to a business. If you follow the steps listed here, marketing your business on MySpace will be a breeze!

Why MySpace is great for your business

Are you one of the many businesses that have yet to discover the power of MySpace? If so, you could be missing on a an exciting opportunity to get your business noticed. Yes, MySpace is thought of us a “friend” type of network, however, it is also great for business networking and marketing your company or products.

First, let’s tell you a little about MySpace. MySpace was created by one man – with the help of his team , of course. In 2003, Tom Anderson the president of MySpace, along with Chris DeWolfe and Brad Greenspan opened MySpace. In the beginning it was just as a social networking site, which it still is.

Though only 4 years old, MySpace has grown to having millions of account, 300 million to be exact and sees visitors in the millions each and every day. Now, when you think about this at a business standpoint, that is a lot of people that you could be marketing and sharing your products, services, and company to, each day. Millions of people, that is a great number. Does your business website alone see that kind of traffic? Likely not, therefore, it only makes sense to take advantage of the traffic that MySpace gets each day.

Now, let’s have a look at some of the great ways MySpace can help your business:

1. Traffic – As mentioned, MySpace receives millions of hits each day, why not take your portion of those hits and turn it into a great avenue for your business.
2. Targeted Traffic – Traffic alone is good, but targeted traffic is even better. You can target the audience you want. This means you can target by age group, city, state, or even country. You can target by interests and many other things. This allows you to choose who you want to advertise to. If you want to advertise to your local area, simply target those that live in your town or surrounding towns. It is really that easy.
3. Rank Higher On Search Engines – MySpace and all its sub pages have great page ranking on Google. Now, if your MySpace profile has your business link on it, what does that mean for you? It means that a high ranking website is linking to your website, which can boost your page rank alone.
4. Network With Other Business Owners – You can network with other business owners, maybe in the same general niche as your own, and help each other out at the same time. Being on each other friends list is help alone, especially when those curious visitors start clicking on your friends list. On the other hand, maybe you can offer discounts to their visitors and vice versa.
Taking advantage of MySpace, means making the most of its features. MySpace offers many different features such as Bulletins, blogs, advertisements, groups, chat rooms, forums, and so much more. Taking advantage of the different features gives your business more exposure and more traffic. If you have not jumped on the MySpace bandwagon yet, now is the time to get started. Your business will thank you.
